Auto-captions from Microsoft, Google, and Zoom are generated in real-time using their speech recognition technology during meetings, video calls, and webinars, providing basic accessibility features. However, these auto-captions often lack accuracy and control, potentially causing embarrassment to brands and individuals. They also fail to provide the detailed closed captions required by the deaf and hard of hearing, as they only capture speech and miss other important sounds like [door opening] or [dog barking]. In contrast, Subly offers a comprehensive solution by allowing users to upload or connect recordings from these platforms to generate complete transcripts, add and customize subtitles and captions, create audio descriptions, and translate content into multiple languages. By using the appropriate file types, you ensure compatibility and accessibility for your videos, subtitles, transcripts, and audio files.
We believe your video content should be available for your audience whenever you'd like to share it with. We have the Subly share feature for you to share a public link with whoever you choose when you've finished editing your video. You don't have to share the link if it's not for public use. Subly has many other interesting features. Check out different plans and what they offer.
You can share the preview video straight social media platforms or via email. To access the preview, click the share button inside the editor and then copy link. Please vote for what you’d like to see next or leave your suggestions on our Roadmap.
Use the Subly editor to download video or audio files with subtitles or captions. Once you've finished editing your video or audio file, simply click the download button in the top right and select the sizes and formats you require. You can download for use as open captions or closed captions by selecting MP4, SRT, VTT, TTML, or XML file formats. We also support TXT and DOCX files if you want to download the transcription only. Then, click download, and your files will download to your device.
Use Subly to merge SRT with MP4 online. If you already have an SRT file, you can add this to a video (.MOV or MP4) that you have uploaded to Subly. Once uploaded you can edit if needed, or just use it as it is. Just look for the tool icon in the editor screen to find the option to upload your own SRT file.
Once you download your video, it will have your SRT file burned into it unless you choose a different download option. Learn more about Subly's caption generator.
When you've finished with your editing you simply hit the download button and select the types of files you'd like to download, including VTT and SRT as options. Learn more about our automatic video captioning feature.
Upload a video and go to the editor, then select the ‘Size’ tab and choose the size you need. Pick from 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5. This will help with all your favourite platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, Snapchat and Pinterest.
You can change the timestamps in the subtitle editor or on the video timeline. Easily add, edit or delete timestamps too whilst keeping them in sync.
Your minute budget is spent based on the duration of the video/audio content you upload and the number of actions you are performing on it.
For example:
If you have a 4-minute-long video and you upload it for transcription, that will deduct 4 minutes from your time budget.
If you decide to translate that content into French, that will “cost” you another 4 minutes.
Want it in Spanish? That’s 4 more minutes out of your budget.
In total, if you transcribe a 4-minute video and translate it into 2 languages, that’s going to deduct 12 minutes from your budget: 4 for transcription and 4 more for each of the translations – 3x4 minutes is 12 minutes.

We currently support .mp4 or .mov for video and any audio files. You can even upload your audio file, add an image to it and turn it into a powerful .mp4 file with subtitles. If your file format doesn’t match, you can use a free 3rd party converter. Learn more about converting audio to video.

Of course, we're here to help you get your content in any language you need. You can transcribe different videos in the original language spoken to translate to over 70 languages. When you're happy with your original transcription you just select translation and choose the other languages you'd like to repurpose your content in. A free 7-day trial is available to all new customers. That way you can try all the features before you even need to buy. Remember to upgrade your account before the end of the trial period to keep using the platform and accessing all the features. You can select the plan that suits you and upgrade your account in the platform.
Transcription accuracy depends on many factors. Our transcription is supported by Artificial intelligence (AI). Although AI technology has made huge advances in recent years, it is not optimal in every situation. The greatest factor of accuracy is the quality of the recording. If your audio has a lot of background noise the accuracy is likely to suffer. If there is little background noise, you use a professional mic for clear audio and one person speaks at a time, your transcription will be much more accurate. Storage is dependant on the plan you choose. Business and Enterprise plans can opt to purchase additional storage if needed. Discover our plans and features.

We use active directory services to manage our users and don't store any sensitive user details in our database due to security measures. Such services have handled user data, access level management and are designed for scalability. Companies around the world use the same services and Subly follows the same principles. All our content and user content is saved in the Cloud. Public Cloud Providers are one of the most secure services in the world and they maintain very high levels of security standards. When we develop our product we make sure to keep the high standards. We are constantly optimising and improving where needed and working with Engineers of our Cloud Providers very closely to ensure no data or content is compromised.
You will be the only person to access your videos unless you share your user account details or invite teammates. Our team will have access to user accounts and content for the sole purpose of developing new features or helping you with support issues.Our team keeps all data and content private. Video recorded on newer iPhones or iPads are usually saved in HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) format to take up less space on the device. This format of video has limited support on Subly and so may lead to some discolouration of the video. If you are wanting to burn subtitles onto your video, we recommend first exporting your HEVC to a more compatible H.264 format before uploading to Subly. Our transcription uses AI and the quality of the transcription really depends on the quality of the audio; the spoken language, pronunciation, and background noise. We are constantly improving the transcription quality and striving for 100% accuracy in the future. Because of many factors that we can't influence, the transcription may not be 100% accurate. That’s why we've built an easy-to-use platform so you can make any edits you need to, in seconds. Log into your Subly account and correct any mistakes in minutes.

Your existing plan will be cancelled and your new plan will be effective immediately. Your billing date will be updated to the date you made changes to your plan. Speak to our support team if you need any help.
We don't offer refunds. You can try before you buy with a 7-day free trial period, so you can decide if we are the right product for you! Check our pricing and plans. If you cancel a plan, you will have access to all of the features until the end of your billing period and then you'll no longer be invoiced/charged.
Do you really have to go? Log in to your Subly account and go to your Settings (you can find it by clicking your profile icon top right). Select Delete user account to leave us. Be sure you really want to, once you've deleted your account there’s no getting your content back.
